The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to suspend his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the opposition party said Gbajabiamila’s suspension would pave the way for an impartial investigation into allegations linked to the council, which the Presidency has consistently maintained does not exist.

The NDC said claims made by Adeniyi Adeyemi, who identified himself as the convener of the PFIPC, warrant an independent probe.

According to the party, documents reportedly showing a budgetary allocation of over ₦1.3 billion to the PFIPC in the 2026 Appropriation Act, as well as allegations that the organisation opened multiple accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria and secured approval for hundreds of staff positions, raise serious concerns that should be investigated.

The NDC also referenced Adeyemi’s allegation that he paid ₦600 million to secure his appointment—₦400 million through intermediaries, with an outstanding balance of ₦200 million. It further cited his claims regarding the death of an alleged intermediary and his assertion that he survived multiple assassination attempts.

Describing the allegations as troubling, the party said they reinforce concerns about corruption within the current administration.

The NDC called for the establishment of an independent investigative panel to examine the legal status of the PFIPC, its reported budgetary allocation, financial transactions, bank accounts and personnel approvals.

It also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the allegations. The party further requested that officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation be invited for questioning.

The NDC maintained that anyone found culpable, regardless of status, should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
