I’ll Deliver Rivers, FCT for Tinubu’s Re-election Without APC Campaign Council Role – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he does not need a position in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated this on Saturday after inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT.
The minister said membership of a presidential campaign council does not guarantee electoral victory, stressing that the true measure of a politician’s relevance is their ability to deliver their state, local government and ward during an election.
The APC had earlier unveiled its presidential campaign council, with Senator Abdulaziz Yari named Director-General and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as Secretary.
However, Wike dismissed suggestions that his absence from the council would prevent him from mobilising support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid.
According to him, the Rainbow Coalition, which he established to support Tinubu’s re-election, already has its own strategies and structures across the country.
“I am not a member of the APC, so I cannot be in the presidential campaign council. We have our own strategies on how the presidency would emerge,” Wike said.
“In the Rainbow Coalition, we don’t need to be members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. We are doing our own work.”
Wike expressed confidence in his ability to deliver both Rivers State and the FCT for President Tinubu, declaring that he would personally take charge of mobilisation efforts in both places.
The minister also cited previous presidential campaigns to argue that holding prominent positions in campaign councils does not necessarily translate into electoral success, particularly when political leaders fail to deliver their home states.
He maintained that the Rainbow Coalition is already working in several states, including Bayelsa, Benue and Kwara, to mobilise support for President Tinubu’s re-election, regardless of formal appointments to the APC campaign structure.
