Lanre Alewilese, a friend and fellow gospel singer of late Nigerian musician Toluwanisings, has warned members of the public against a fake fundraising campaign circulating on social media in the name of the singer’s family.

The appeal, which features a photograph of the late gospel singer, asks members of the public to donate money to support his wife and children following his death.

However, Alewilese has denied being aware of any genuine fundraising effort linked to the family and cautioned people against sending money through unauthorised accounts.

The gospel singer shared a public notice on his social media page to alert fans and other members of the public about the development.

He urged people to report the account responsible for sharing the fundraising flyer, warning that it should not be trusted.

Alewilese also advised the public to rely on his official social media page for any genuine information about financial support for the late singer’s family.

He explained that any legitimate fundraising campaign, if one becomes necessary, would be announced through his platform rather than through the account currently circulating the appeal.

The warning comes as fans and sympathisers continue to mourn Toluwanisings, whose death was announced on October 14, 2026.

The news of his death has drawn condolences from members of the gospel music industry, fans and other Nigerians who have followed his music and career.

Following the announcement, the viral fundraising flyer appeared online, claiming that contributions were needed to cater for the needs of his wife and children.

However, Alewilese’s reaction has raised concerns about people taking advantage of the singer’s death to solicit money from unsuspecting members of the public.

People wishing to support the family have been advised to confirm the authenticity of any donation request before making payments.

Members of the public are also encouraged to avoid transferring money to unknown accounts based on social media posts that have not been verified.

The warning is intended to protect fans and sympathisers from possible financial losses while ensuring that any genuine assistance meant for the late singer’s wife and children reaches the right people.
