South African singer, Tyla Removes Lagos From World Tour Schedule After Online Backlash

South African singer and Grammy winner Tyla has removed Lagos from the schedule of her upcoming APop World Tour following reactions from some Nigerians over renewed reports of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

Tyla had announced the tour on Monday, with the initial lineup including a Lagos concert on December 22, alongside performances across Europe, North America and South Africa.

The announcement triggered mixed reactions on Nigerian social media, as several users questioned the decision to hold a concert in Lagos amid reports of fresh xenophobic violence involving Nigerians in South Africa.

The development reignited long-standing tensions between both countries, with some users calling for a boycott of the planned Lagos show.

Others, however, argued that entertainment should not be tied to diplomatic disagreements, insisting that musicians should not be blamed for political or societal issues.

Public figures also joined the debate. Media personality Do2dtun questioned the promoters behind the proposed Lagos concert, while activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore urged Nigerians to direct their frustrations toward political leaders rather than the singer.

Tyla and her management have not publicly responded to the criticism.

Checks by Vanguard show that Lagos has been removed from the list of tour venues on the official ticketing platform. The previously announced December 22 concert in Nigeria no longer appears on the updated schedule.

The revised tour dates now include performances across Europe, North America and two South African shows — Cape Town on January 4 and Johannesburg on January 9.
