Bruno Fernandes Equals Premier League Assist Record as Man United Beat Forest 3–2 in Thriller

Bruno Fernandes has equalled the Premier League single-season assist record after registering his 20th assist in Manchester United’s narrow 3–2 win over Nottingham Forest.

The United captain, recently named Football Writers’ Player of the Season, moved level with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne when his late cross was turned in by Bryan Mbeumo to seal all three points for the Red Devils.

Although both sides had already achieved their main objectives for the season—United securing Champions League qualification and Forest confirming survival last weekend—the encounter delivered an entertaining contest filled with drama.

United started brightly and took the lead inside five minutes through Luke Shaw’s volley. Forest, however, responded after the restart when Morato headed in from an Elliot Anderson delivery to level the score.

Controversy followed as United restored their advantage through Matheus Cunha, who finished after a scrappy move that included a suspected handball by Bryan Mbeumo in the buildup. Despite a VAR review, the goal stood.

Forest continued to push and nearly equalised immediately through Morgan Gibbs-White, but he was denied by a quick reaction from goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Fernandes then made history 14 minutes from time, delivering a precise cross that Mbeumo converted—bringing the Portuguese midfielder level with the Premier League assist record of 20 in a single season.

The visitors refused to back down, with Gibbs-White combining with Anderson to pull one back late on, finishing neatly into the bottom corner after a driven cross.

Casemiro received an emotional ovation on what is believed to be his final Old Trafford appearance when he was substituted for Mason Mount late in the game.

United almost extended their lead further in stoppage time, but Diogo Dalot struck the post from another Fernandes delivery.

Despite late pressure, United held on to secure victory and continue their strong form under Michael Carrick, who is expected to sign a new two-year contract to remain in charge at Old Trafford.
