Arsenal Thrash Manchester City 3-0 to Win Community Shield

Arsenal began their title-defence campaign in emphatic fashion on Sunday, defeating Manchester City 3-0 to lift the Community Shield at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side wasted no time asserting their dominance, taking the lead just 24 seconds into the game through Riccardo Calafiori.

The Gunners continued to dictate proceedings and doubled their advantage in the 27th minute when Kai Havertz headed home from close range following a well-worked move involving Christos Tzolis.

Manchester City struggled to match Arsenal’s intensity, with several key players failing to make a significant impact. Erling Haaland, in particular, was unable to capitalise on his opportunities in the first half.

Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard added a third goal three minutes after the restart, receiving a pass from Tzolis before weaving through the City defence and finishing past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The victory gave Arsenal a major boost ahead of their Premier League title defence and provided an impressive first look at some of their summer signings.

Bruno Guimarães, who joined Arsenal from Newcastle United for £75 million, impressed in midfield, while Tzolis delivered an influential performance with two assists.

The defeat, meanwhile, marked a difficult start to life at Manchester City for new manager Enzo Maresca, who was appointed to succeed Pep Guardiola.

Arsenal will begin their Premier League campaign against newly promoted Coventry at the Emirates Stadium on August 21, while Manchester City will host Bournemouth two days later.

The Community Shield victory marks Arsenal’s 18th triumph in the competition and strengthens expectations that Arteta’s side could challenge for further silverware this season.
