2027: NDC Targets 1m Votes for Obi/Kwankwaso in FCT
The South-East chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) says it is targeting one million votes for the party’s presidential ticket in the 2027 general elections.
The FCT South-East Chairman of the NDC, Mike Nwosu, disclosed this on Saturday during a solidarity visit by members from the six Area Councils to the party’s National Vice Chairman, South-East, Teddy Obey.
Nwosu said the visit was aimed at appreciating the party’s national leadership for allowing the South-East to produce its presidential candidate and to reaffirm the region’s commitment to mobilising support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said the group would begin intensive mobilisation across the FCT, with the aim of bringing at least one million people of South-East origin in Abuja and the FCT under the NDC.
According to him, the emergence of Peter Obi as the party’s presidential candidate represents an opportunity for greater political inclusion of the South-East at the national level.
Also speaking, VinMartin Ilo, Chief Technical Adviser to NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, said the South-East had a responsibility to convince Nigerians across the country that an Igbo presidency would serve the interests of all Nigerians.
Ilo said the party would deploy a grassroots campaign strategy based on facts, statistics and evidence to persuade voters, while ensuring that its manifesto, programmes and policies were communicated to Nigerians across different communities.
He added that the campaign would cover every part of the country, including remote communities, with the aim of ensuring that voters understood what an NDC administration would deliver from its first day in office.
On his part, NDC National Vice Chairman, South-East, Teddy Obey, said the party would adopt peaceful, door-to-door mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Obey said the NDC would prioritise direct engagement with voters without violence, confrontation or unnecessary street activities.
He urged Nigerians to consider the long-term future of the country and their children when making political decisions, rather than focusing solely on immediate benefits.
Obey also acknowledged the prevalence of financial inducements during elections but urged voters to collect such offers if they wished while ultimately voting according to their conscience.
The NDC chieftain said the party would continue to encourage Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process and pursue political change through peaceful means.
