2027: Don’t Allow Politicians Use Your Platforms to Spread Fake News, Hate Speech – ASKOMP tells Members

The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) has implored its members not to allow politicians to use their platforms for spreading of misinformation, disinformation and hate speeches as campaigns for 2027 general elections commence.

ASKOMP Chairman and the Publisher of Theinformant247, Salihu Shola Taofeek made this call in a statement issued on Thursday.

The statement reads:

Based on the timeline of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), campaigns for the Presidential/National Assembly elections commence on August 19, 2026. It’s therefore imperative for the association to reaffirm our core principles of adhering to professional ethics and standards guiding journalism.

As Online Media Practitioners, we must not allow politicians to use our platforms to spread fake news, misinformation, disinformation and hate speeches.

We urge you to avoid heating up the political space or promote violence the electioneering campaigns begin.

We encourage you to verify claims by political parties and their candidates for us not to mislead the audience. Let’s embrace conflict sensitive reporting in order to sustain peaceful political ambience in Kwara State ahead of 2027 general elections.
