Abibakr As-Siddiq Philanthropic Home Completes 20 Solar-Powered Boreholes in Four Nigerian States
Abibakr As-Siddiq Philanthropic Home (ASPH) has completed and commissioned 20 medium-depth solar-powered boreholes across Kano, Nasarawa, Benue and Oyo states under Project OP-641, implemented with the support of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief).
The intervention is aimed at expanding access to safe and clean drinking water in underserved and vulnerable communities, providing a sustainable solution to water scarcity while improving public health and sanitation.
The project covered five communities in each of the four beneficiary states. In Kano State, the boreholes were sited at Magadawa Kudu (Mariri), Ladanai, Tudun Makera, Gadan and Tudun Fulani. In Oyo State, the facilities were constructed in Igbeti, Igboho, Iseyin, Kishi and Sepeteri. Benue State beneficiaries include Abua Village (Tarka LGA), Daudu Village (Guma LGA), Mechanic Village (Makurdi LGA), Ikpayongo Village (Gwer East LGA) and Gbende Village (Gwer West LGA). In Nasarawa State, the project was implemented in Angwan Jama’a (Keffi LGA), Layin Sarki (Toto LGA), Angwan Sadi (Kokona LGA), Angwan Bai (Nasarawa LGA) and Jijipe Community.
Each borehole is equipped with a solar-powered pumping system, elevated water storage tanks and multiple water collection points to ensure a reliable and environmentally sustainable supply of potable water throughout the year. The facilities are expected to serve thousands of residents, including households, schools and healthcare centres.
Speaking on the completion of the project, the President of Abibakr As-Siddiq Philanthropic Home expressed appreciation to KSrelief for its continued partnership in supporting humanitarian and development initiatives across Nigeria.
He described access to safe drinking water as a fundamental human necessity and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to implementing sustainable interventions that improve the lives of vulnerable communities.
According to him, the newly completed boreholes will help reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases, improve hygiene and sanitation, ease the burden on women and children who often travel long distances in search of water, and contribute to healthier and more resilient communities.
ASPH also commended the support of state and local government authorities, traditional rulers, community leaders, technical teams and beneficiary communities for their cooperation throughout the implementation of the project.
The organisation disclosed that all the facilities have been tested, commissioned and formally handed over to the beneficiary communities. It added that Community Water Management Committees have been established to oversee the operation and maintenance of the boreholes to ensure their sustainability.
Abibakr As-Siddiq Philanthropic Home reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and excellence in the delivery of humanitarian programmes, while expressing readiness to strengthen its collaboration with KSrelief and other development partners in providing more life-changing interventions across Nigeria.
