Nigeria to Face Algeria in 2025 AFCON Quarter-Final

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will battle Algeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the Desert Foxes edged DR Congo 1-0 in extra time in the second round. Adil Boulbina scored the decisive goal late in extra time to seal Algeria’s qualification.

Nigeria secured their place in the last eight with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique, underlining their status as one of the tournament’s favourites.

The quarter-final sets up a high-profile showdown between Nigeria’s free-scoring attack, the best in the competition with 12 goals, and Algeria’s disciplined defence, which has conceded just one goal in four matches.

The fixture also revives a famous rivalry, with Nigeria and Algeria last meeting at the AFCON in 2019, when a late Riyad Mahrez free-kick sent Algeria into the final en route to lifting the trophy.

The match will be played on January 10 at the Marrakesh Stadium, Marrakesh, with kick-off scheduled for 5 pm Nigerian time.

The winner will progress to the semi-final to face either hosts Morocco or Cameroon. Other quarter-final pairings include Mali vs Senegal and Egypt vs Côte d’Ivoire.
