I’ve Been a Babalawo for Over 18 Years, Says 9ice

Nigerian singer 9ice has revealed that he has been a traditional priest (babalawo) for more than 18 years, saying he only kept it private because of fear of public rejection.

Speaking at the listening party of his new album Beginning of Wisdom, the “Gongo Aso” crooner said he has always blended spirituality with his music but previously hid his traditional beliefs from the public.

According to him, his goal is to modernize traditional spiritual themes in a way that resonates with today’s audience while staying true to his faith journey.

He also noted that his spiritual path has evolved over time, saying he has previously practised Islam and Christianity before embracing his current belief system as his “true calling.”

His revelation comes amid similar public comments by Fuji musician Saheed Osupa, who recently spoke about the use of spiritual means in his success journey.
