New Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate to Be Turbaned July 10

The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has approved Friday, July 10, 2026, for the turbaning of the newly appointed Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki, popularly known as Imam Fulani.

A statement issued by the Emir’s Personal Assistant, Abdulraheem Muritala, Ph.D., said the ceremony will take place at the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin and is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m.

The event, which marks a significant moment in the religious and cultural history of the Ilorin Emirate, will be presided over by the Emir of Ilorin and is expected to attract Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders and members of the Muslim Ummah from within and outside Kwara State.

Sheikh Dasuki was recently appointed as the 13th Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, succeeding the late Muhammad Bashir Solihu. The turbaning ceremony will formally usher him into the revered position as the spiritual leader of Muslims in the emirate.

The statement also offered prayers for Allah’s guidance, wisdom, sound health and long life for the new Chief Imam as he assumes the responsibilities of the office, while wishing the Emir continued good health and a long reign.

The announcement was signed by Abdulraheem Muritala, Ph.D., Personal Assistant to the Emir of Ilorin.
