Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation rather than criticism for the economic reforms introduced by his administration.

Shettima made the remarks on Monday while speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit held in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The vice-president also praised Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for supporting the Federal Government’s reform agenda. He noted that Soludo took a bold position during the 2023 presidential election by insisting that the contest would be decided by grassroots support and not by intimidation or blackmail.
According to Shettima, the Tinubu administration inherited a difficult economic situation marked by capital scarcity, but the country is now witnessing increasing capital inflows.
He said Soludo had helped Nigerians understand the economic realities the current administration met on ground, particularly with regard to the nation’s foreign reserves.
The vice-president stated that Nigeria’s foreign reserves have risen to over 52 billion dollars despite global economic uncertainties, stressing that such progress deserves recognition.
Shettima added that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting credible investments and working with state governments to remove obstacles that hinder enterprise and business growth.
Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves stood at about 35.09 billion dollars on May 29, 2023, when Tinubu assumed office. By June 2026, the reserves had increased to 51.03 billion dollars, the highest level recorded since January 2009.
