INEC Urges Nigerians to Register, Update Voter Details as CVR Ends Today
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reminded eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the final day of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which officially ends today, Sunday, July 26, 2026.
In a message shared on its official X handle on Sunday, the electoral body urged citizens who are yet to register or update their voter information to do so before the close of the exercise.
INEC said the CVR exercise covers new voter registration, transfer of registration, correction of personal details, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” the commission stated.
It encouraged prospective voters to complete their registration through the online CVR portal or visit any of its state or local government offices before the deadline, stressing that eligible Nigerians should not wait until it is too late.
The commission also reiterated that participation in the CVR exercise is a mandatory requirement for eligible citizens who intend to vote in the 2027 general elections.
The current registration exercise is the third phase of the nationwide CVR programme. INEC had launched the first phase in August 2025 with online pre-registration, followed by physical registration on August 25. By the end of that phase in December, the commission recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations, comprising 1,503,832 online registrations and 1,068,222 in-person registrations.
The second phase, which ran from January 5 to April 17, 2026, recorded 3,748,704 completed registrations nationwide before the third phase commenced in May. Earlier this month, INEC extended the exercise by an additional two weeks to allow more eligible Nigerians to register and update their voter records.
