Tinubu lacks capacity to tackle insecurity, Makinde has blueprint – APM

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over the country’s security situation, saying the president lacks the capacity to develop a workable blueprint to tackle insecurity.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Abubakar Yusuf, APM National Publicity Secretary, said Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State and the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election, has a clear plan to address insecurity and other challenges facing Nigeria.

Yusuf also warned that Nigeria could not afford another four years under what he described as the “incompetent” Tinubu administration.

The APM spokesperson further criticised Christopher Musa, Minister of Defence, over his recent claim that the country’s security situation had improved.

Musa, speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, said terrorist attacks were no longer rampant and that security forces were increasingly entering terrorists’ hideouts to rescue victims.

Reacting, Yusuf accused the Tinubu administration of being either “dangerously disconnected from reality” or deliberately attempting to mislead Nigerians about the true state of insecurity in the country.

He challenged President Tinubu, Musa and other senior government officials to travel by road without armed security personnel if they believed the security situation had significantly improved.

According to Yusuf, insecurity remains a major challenge under the Tinubu administration because the government has failed to develop and implement an effective strategy to contain it.

“Our nation cannot survive another four years under such a hopeless and incompetent administration,” he said.

Yusuf urged Nigerians not to lose hope, calling on them to support Makinde in the 2027 presidential election.

He said the Oyo governor was prepared with a blueprint that would address insecurity and other challenges allegedly worsened by the Tinubu administration.

The APM spokesperson also referenced the May 15 attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where gunmen killed two people and abducted at least 45 schoolchildren and teachers.

The affected schools were Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso.

The Oyo State Police Command later confirmed that two people were killed during the attacks.

On July 10, 39 schoolchildren and five teachers were rescued following the abductions.
