The African Democratic Congress has submitted the names and personal details of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination portal as part of preparations for the 2027 general election.

The party announced the development on Tuesday through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who disclosed the submission in a post on his verified X account.

According to Abdullahi, the successful upload of the candidates’ particulars represents another milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

“We are pleased to announce that we have successfully uploaded the names and particulars of the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar (GCON), and our vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi (CON), to the nomination portal of INEC,” he wrote.

He added that the move reflects the party’s commitment to presenting Nigerians with what it described as a credible alternative founded on competence, unity and national renewal.

The submission of candidates’ particulars is one of the mandatory requirements in the electoral process, enabling political parties to formally nominate their candidates within the timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Atiku secured the ADC presidential ticket in May after defeating former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen at the party’s presidential primary. Amaechi later accepted the nomination as Atiku’s running mate, completing the party’s presidential ticket.

The ADC is positioning itself as a major opposition platform ahead of the 2027 election, with Atiku making another bid for the presidency after contesting under the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, had previously sought the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general election before defecting to the ADC.

The party has consistently maintained that it intends to provide what it describes as a credible alternative to the administration of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
