The younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Mrs. Olaide John-Paul, and her twin sons have been released after spending three days in captivity.

The victims were reportedly abducted by armed men on Wednesday while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Confirming the development on Saturday, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Olushola, said the mother and her children were rescued unharmed.

“Yes, they have been rescued unhurt,” the police spokesperson stated.

According to one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday when Mrs. John-Paul was driving her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, to school.

Mrs. John-Paul, 43, is the youngest of the five children of Olufunmilayo Adelabu. She previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring last year.

Awogboro said she had relocated to Ibadan with her children after retirement while making plans to reunite with her husband, who had earlier moved to the United States.

The police said further details surrounding the rescue operation would be made public later.

Meanwhile, the victims’ release comes amid growing concern over the continued captivity of more than 40 pupils and teachers abducted from three schools in Ogbomosho, located in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area. The victims, including children as young as two years old, have remained in captivity since their abduction on May 15.
