Tinubu Deeply Concerned Over Oyo School Abduction, Assures Safe Rescue — Gbajabiamila
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said that President Bola Tinubu is deeply disturbed by the abduction of teachers and pupils from schools in Oyo State and is committed to securing their safe return.
Gbajabiamila made the assurance on Sunday during a visit to Ogbomoso, where he led a Federal Government delegation to meet with community leaders and families of the abducted victims. The teachers and pupils were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Gbajabiamila conveyed the President’s concern and determination to bring the victims home safely.
“Mr. President is deeply troubled by this incident. Whatever it takes, our children and teachers will be brought back home safely,” he said, adding that Tinubu has directed security agencies to deploy all necessary resources toward the rescue effort.
He also expressed sympathy to the affected families, assuring them that the government understands their pain and anxiety.
Gbajabiamila stated that the rescue operation would be intelligence-driven and carefully coordinated, combining both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to ensure the safe return of the victims.
The abduction, which has attracted widespread national and international attention, has prompted the Federal Government to strengthen security measures. President Tinubu recently approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards as part of efforts to improve security and combat kidnapping.
Members of the delegation included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe, and Presidential Adviser on Media and Public Communications Sunday Dare, among other top government officials.
