UCL: Bayern edge Real Madrid in seven-goal thriller
Bayern Munich booked their place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after a dramatic 4-3 victory over Real Madrid, sealing a 6-4 aggregate win at the Allianz Arena.
Late strikes from Luis Díaz and Michael Olise proved decisive for the German side, who were pushed to the limit by the visitors before Eduardo Camavinga’s red card shifted momentum.
Madrid made a lightning start, taking the lead inside the opening minute through Arda Güler, who capitalised on a poor pass from Manuel Neuer. Bayern responded quickly, with Aleksandar Pavlović heading home from a corner delivered by Joshua Kimmich.
Güler doubled Madrid’s lead with a well-struck free-kick, but Harry Kane restored parity with his 50th goal of the season. Kylian Mbappé then finished off a counterattack led by Vinícius Júnior to give Madrid a 3-2 halftime lead and level the tie on aggregate.
The Spanish side continued to threaten after the break but were undone by Camavinga’s dismissal for two bookable offences. Bayern took full advantage, with Díaz curling in a superb equaliser before Olise sealed the comeback with another fine strike.
The result ends Madrid’s long unbeaten run against Bayern and marks the Bavarians’ first home-and-away victories over the Spanish giants in 25 years.
Bayern will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Arsenal advanced to the last four after a goalless draw against Sporting Lisbon secured a 1-0 aggregate win. The Gunners will take on Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals.
