The Senate on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to and observed a solemn one-minute silence in honour of the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Solih (OON), who died two weeks ago.

The tribute followed a motion raised during plenary by the senator representing Kwara Central, Saliu Mustapha, who described the late cleric as a respected religious leader renowned for his humility, devotion to faith and commitment to peace and unity within the Ilorin Emirate and beyond.

Mr Mustapha told his colleagues that Sheikh Solih dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity, leaving a legacy of spiritual leadership and moral guidance that had a lasting impact on the Muslim community and society at large.

He urged the Senate to honour the cleric’s memory with a minute of silence in recognition of what he described as a life of selfless service.

The Senate observed the silence and offered prayers for the repose of the cleric’s soul, asking Allah to grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and to console his family, the Ilorin Emirate and the wider Muslim Ummah.

Presiding over the session, the Deputy Senate President conveyed the Senate’s condolences, recounting a recent personal interaction with the late Chief Imam, whom he described as a gifted orator and a peaceful leader.

He extended the Senate’s sympathies to the family of the deceased, the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and the government and people of Kwara State.
