Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The announcement was made on Thursday, following the departure of Arne Slot, who was relieved of his duties last week. While the club did not disclose details of Iraola’s contract, it confirmed that the Spaniard will take charge of the team for the upcoming campaign.

Iraola arrives at Anfield after an impressive three-year spell at Bournemouth, where he guided the club to a historic sixth-place finish in the Premier League and secured European qualification for the first time in its history.

Expressing his excitement after the appointment, the 43-year-old said Liverpool’s stature, passionate supporters, quality squad, and ambition to compete for major honours made the role impossible to resist.

He described Liverpool as one of the biggest clubs in world football and said the opportunity to work with elite players and challenge for trophies was a major attraction.

Iraola faces the task of rebuilding Liverpool after a disappointing 2025/26 season in which the Reds surrendered the Premier League title to Arsenal and finished with just 60 points — their lowest tally in a decade.

Despite earning widespread praise for his work in management, Iraola has won only one major trophy so far in his coaching career, the Cypriot Super Cup. He will now aim to restore Liverpool’s fortunes and return the club to title contention.
