Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Lagos State, securing the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.

The result was announced at the APC Secretariat in Ikeja by the Returning Officer, retired General Jonathan Temlong. He declared that Hamzat polled 657,917 votes, defeating his sole opponent, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, who scored just one vote.

Temlong stated that 657,974 delegates were accredited for the exercise, which took place peacefully across all 245 wards in the state’s 20 local government areas. He described the process as orderly, transparent, and consistent with APC electoral guidelines.

He also commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their presence and monitoring role during the primary election.

Hamzat recorded overwhelming support across the state, with notable figures including 74,501 votes in Alimosho, 55,148 in Ikorodu, 51,600 in Kosofe, and 49,079 in Lagos Mainland, among others.

Declaring the final result, Temlong formally announced Hamzat as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election.

Earlier, Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, praised the conduct of party members and electoral officials, describing the primary as credible and reflecting the unity of the party in the state.

In his acceptance speech, Hamzat expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, APC leaders, and party faithful for the confidence placed in him. He pledged to continue the developmental policies of the current administration in Lagos State and promised inclusive governance if elected in 2027.

The primary initially attracted four aspirants, but two later withdrew from the race before the election. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, stepped down after the party leadership and the Governance Advisory Council endorsed Hamzat, while another aspirant, Samuel Ajose, withdrew shortly before the exercise.
