Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi State, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The governor made the announcement on Saturday during a stakeholders’ meeting, where he was formally received into the APM and presented with the party’s membership card, constitution, and flag.

Speaking at the event, Mohammed described the APM as a stable and viable political platform, free from internal legal disputes, where he and his supporters can continue to serve the public.

He also expressed gratitude to the PDP for the role it played in his political journey.

“At this point, I wish to acknowledge and appreciate the PDP for the important role it has played in our collective political journey,” he said, noting that the party gave him the opportunity to contribute to the development of the state and the country.

According to him, the decision to leave the PDP followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders.

His defection puts an end to weeks of speculation over his political future, particularly amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP.

Prior to the move, there had been rumours that the Bauchi governor might join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the All Progressives Congress (APC).
