Binani defects to NDC nine months after leaving APC
Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Her defection was announced on Friday, exactly nine months after she exited the APC for the ADC.
At a ceremony marking her entry into the party, Binani received her NDC membership card as Seriake Dickson, the party’s national leader, formally welcomed her. She was also named the NDC leader in Adamawa, pending the completion of internal party processes.
Speaking at the event, Binani said her decision followed a careful review of the party’s constitution, which she described as reflecting a strong commitment to structured and policy-driven governance.
Addressing concerns about her recent political movements, she noted that politics is dynamic and decisions are often influenced by prevailing realities, stressing that she would not criticise her former parties.
She added that her supporters played a major role in the move, explaining that many of them had already established a presence within the NDC before her official defection. According to her, this contributed to Adamawa having one of the highest membership figures in the party.
Binani emphasised the importance of collective effort in politics, noting that no individual can succeed without the backing of loyal supporters.
She also appreciated the NDC’s national working committee for the reception and called for fairness, equity, transparency, and stronger internal democracy within the party.
Welcoming her, Dickson described the NDC as an inclusive platform open to new members and ideas. He expressed confidence in Binani’s leadership in Adamawa, stating that the party looks forward to strengthening its presence in the state as its internal processes progress.
