Arsenal Edge Closer to Premier League Title with Narrow Victory Over West Ham
Leandro Trossard scored a late winner as Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over West Ham United in their English Premier League clash at the London Stadium on Sunday.
The Gunners endured heavy pressure from the hosts throughout the encounter, with goalkeeper David Raya producing a series of crucial saves to keep Mikel Arteta’s side in the game before Trossard eventually broke the deadlock late on.
Arsenal nearly made a bright start to the London derby, but Trossard struck the woodwork twice in the opening stages, while West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen denied Eberechi Eze from close range.
West Ham also threatened on several occasions and almost went ahead before halftime, but Valentín Castellanos was denied by an impressive save from Raya.
The Hammers continued their attacking display in the second half, forcing Raya into another brilliant stop after Mateus Fernandes fired from close range.
Arteta later introduced captain Martin Ødegaard as part of a triple substitution, and the Norwegian midfielder quickly made an impact by creating the chance that led to Trossard’s decisive finish — the Belgian’s first goal of 2026.
There was late drama in stoppage time when Callum Wilson thought he had rescued a point for West Ham, only for the goal to be ruled out following a lengthy VAR review for a foul on Raya during the build-up.
The victory moves Arsenal five points clear of Manchester City with just two games remaining, as the North London side continue their push for a first Premier League title in 22 years.
West Ham remain in 18th place, one point away from safety, although they have played one game more than 16th-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
