The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the revised 2027 election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as “almost impossible” for opposition parties to comply with.

Speaking on Channels Television, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the party’s objection stems from provisions in the new Electoral Act 2026, which require parties to submit a fully digitalised membership register across all 36 states within about 32 days when notifying INEC of congresses or conventions.

He argued that the timeline creates a structural disadvantage for smaller parties, alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress had begun preparations long before the law was enacted.

INEC had earlier revised the election dates following the repeal of the Electoral Act 2022 and the signing of the Electoral Act 2026 by President Bola Tinubu. Under the new schedule, presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly polls are set for February 6, 2027.

While INEC says the changes align with the new legal framework and constitutional requirements, the ADC insists the timetable could undermine fair participation if not reviewed.
