The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has defended the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as painful but necessary measures that will eventually improve the country’s economy.

Speaking on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election in Surulere, Lagos, Gbajabiamila compared the current economic situation to the pains experienced during childbirth, saying the hardship Nigerians are facing now would later give way to lasting benefits.

According to him, reforms are not designed to produce immediate results but are aimed at securing long-term growth and stability for the country.

“The gains of these policies may not come immediately because reforms take time. Like childbirth, there is pain and discomfort for several months, but once the baby arrives, the joy makes people forget the suffering,” he said.

Gbajabiamila also said the large turnout of APC supporters at the event showed increasing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership ahead of the 2027 elections. He noted that even his 96-year-old mother attended the gathering, which he described as a sign of strong support for the president.

He praised Tinubu as a courageous leader willing to take difficult decisions for the future of Nigeria, adding that many citizens remain hopeful that the administration’s policies will eventually deliver economic and social progress.

The presidential aide maintained that the reforms are necessary to reposition the country for sustainable development despite the current economic challenges.
