Tinubu: I was accused of killing opposition, but I didn’t have a gun

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rejected allegations that he is working to eliminate opposition parties or turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

Speaking during an interfaith breakfast with senators at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President said criticism is part of public office, dismissing claims that he is “killing the opposition.” He stressed that Nigeria’s security and economic challenges require unity rather than division.

Tinubu also defended his administration’s economic reforms, stating that the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange changes were necessary to curb corruption and stabilise the economy. He said the reforms were achieved in collaboration with the National Assembly and have placed the country on the path to recovery.

His remarks come amid tensions between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), over allegations of political interference and defections.
