UCL: Lookman’s Goal Sends Atletico to Semi finals
Ademola Lookman delivered a crucial performance as Atletico Madrid advanced to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League despite a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday night.
The Nigerian forward scored Atletico’s vital goal after they had gone two goals down, ensuring Diego Simeone’s side progressed 3-2 on aggregate. Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres had earlier put Barcelona ahead, overturning Atletico’s first-leg advantage.
Barcelona struck early through Yamal, who capitalised on a defensive error, before Torres added a second following a neat assist from Dani Olmo. However, Lookman pulled one back in the first half with a composed finish from Marcos Llorente’s assist.
The Catalans pushed for more goals in the second half but were dealt a setback when Eric Garcia was sent off. Atletico held firm under pressure from Robert Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo to seal qualification for their first semi-final appearance since 2017.
In another quarter-final clash, Paris Saint-Germain cruised past Liverpool with a 2-0 win at Anfield, completing a 4-0 aggregate victory. Ousmane Dembele scored both goals late in the game to send the French champions through.
