Supreme Court Judgment Does Not Bar Saliu Mustapha, Kolo from Contesting 2027 Election – Lawyer

Legal practitioner, Barrister Taofiq Olateju has clarified that the recent Supreme Court judgment does not automatically disqualify Senator Saliu Mustapha, Dr Kolo Baba Jiya and other political candidates from contesting in the 2027 general elections.

Olateju made this known on Tuesday while speaking on the Ebawa Da Si radio programme on Diamond FM, where he explained the implications of the judgment for candidates preparing for next year’s elections.

According to him, only cases instituted within the stipulated 14-day window following the publication of candidates’ names can lead to disqualification under the applicable legal provisions.

He maintained that the Supreme Court judgment should not be interpreted as an automatic bar preventing Senator Saliu Mustapha, Dr Kolo and other candidates from participating in the 2027 elections.

Senator Mustapha and Dr Kolo Jiya defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where they secured senatorial tickets to contest in their respective districts.
