Shekarau Emerges APC Consensus Candidate for Kano Central Senate Seat
Former Kano State governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Kano Central senatorial seat.
The development followed the intervention of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, who brokered peace among aspirants contesting for the party’s ticket.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin, Yusuf convened a reconciliation meeting in Abuja involving all aspirants and key stakeholders. The meeting reportedly ended with all parties agreeing to set aside their differences in the interest of party unity and Kano’s political future.
As part of the agreement, eight aspirants voluntarily withdrew from the race and endorsed Shekarau as the APC candidate for the district.
Governor Yusuf praised the aspirants for putting the collective interest of the state above personal ambition, describing their decision as a strong display of political maturity, sacrifice, and commitment to democratic principles.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to dialogue, inclusiveness, and consensus-building as key strategies for ensuring political stability and development in the state.
One of the stakeholders, Usman Bala, said the eight aspirants unanimously backed the governor’s peace initiative, describing the move as timely and wise.
Reacting to the development, Shekarau commended Governor Yusuf for fostering reconciliation among the contenders and thanked the other aspirants for supporting him and the APC’s broader political agenda in Kano.
