Davido Defends Adeleke, Seeks Free and Fair Osun Election

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has defended Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke against comments made by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, insisting that there is nothing wrong with dancing.

Davido spoke on Friday in Osogbo during the “Vote, Not Fight” campaign held ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

Responding to Okpebholo’s remarks about Adeleke’s dancing style, the singer questioned why dancing should be seen as a problem.

“There is nothing wrong with dancing,” Davido said, adding that his uncle should not be criticised for expressing himself through dance.

The singer also commended the Adeleke administration, saying it had delivered on many of the promises made to the people of Osun State.

According to him, the support the government enjoys is not only because of Adeleke’s personality but also because of the projects and programmes being executed across the state.

Davido further appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the forthcoming governorship election is peaceful, credible and transparent.

He said he had previously met the President in Abuja and expressed confidence that a free and fair election would be conducted.

PUNCH Online reports that Davido also shared what appeared to be Governor Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Stories on Friday, a move widely interpreted as a reaction to the governor’s comments about Adeleke.

The singer had earlier joined Governor Adeleke at a roadshow and campaign rally on Thursday, where he urged residents to reject violence, intimidation and any form of electoral interference during the election period.
