Cabinet Reshuffle Will Be Continuous to Strengthen Governance – Tinubu Says
President Bola Tinubu has said that the reshuffling of his cabinet will remain a continuous exercise aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery across the country.
According to a statement on Tuesday by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, the President recently approved a minor adjustment to the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
The memo, signed by the SGF, indicated that Wale Edun has been relieved of his role as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, with Taiwo Oyedele appointed as his replacement, having previously served as Minister of State for Finance.
It also stated that Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has been removed as Minister of Housing and Urban Development, while Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been nominated as minister-designate for the ministry.
The SGF explained that the changes are intended to enhance coordination within the cabinet and improve economic delivery in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He further conveyed the President’s assurance that the process of strengthening and repositioning the cabinet will not be a one-off exercise but an ongoing effort.
“Explaining the President’s decision, Akume said the changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as ensuring more impactful delivery of economic policies to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement read.
It added that the President acted in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower him to appoint and reorganise ministers.
Tinubu also expressed appreciation to outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, while reaffirming that cabinet reinvigoration will continue as necessary.
