The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State has suspended a member of its National Working Committee, Aliyu Gantsa, for 12 months over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced in a joint statement issued in Dutse on Monday and signed by Ahmad Garba, Polling Unit Chairman of Primary School, Gantsa Fada Yamma; Nasiru Garba Dan Halima, Gantsa Ward Chairman; and Isyaku Muhammad Lelenkudu, the party’s chairman in Buji Local Government Area.

According to the statement, the suspension took effect on October 19, 2026, and will remain in force until October 19, 2027.

The party leaders said the decision was reached at the polling unit of Primary School, Gantsa Fada Yamma, identified as Unit No. 17-05-04-002 in Buji Local Government Area.

They explained that the action followed deliberations on issues relating to party discipline, internal unity and compliance with the party’s established rules and procedures.

The statement disclosed that the ADC Ward Executive Committee approved the suspension on October 5, 2026, while the Local Government Working Committee gave its approval on October 16, 2026.

The party leaders maintained that the decision was taken in line with the organisation’s regulations and was intended to address concerns about members’ conduct and their respect for party structures.

Gantsa was accused of engaging in activities considered harmful to the ADC’s interests and reputation across Jigawa State.

The party alleged that his conduct had damaged its image and affected its standing among members of the public.

He was also accused of openly declaring his support for a political aspirant who lost during the party’s primary election.

According to the party executives, Gantsa’s alleged support for the defeated aspirant amounted to a challenge to the party’s officially selected candidates and could undermine its electoral interests.

As part of the disciplinary measures, the ADC barred Gantsa from attending or participating in meetings, caucuses, rallies and other official activities organised by the party during the suspension period.

The restriction applies to gatherings at the polling unit, ward, local government, state and national levels.

The statement further said Gantsa would not be allowed to exercise the rights, duties, privileges or responsibilities attached to his party membership or any position he held within the organisation throughout the suspension.

However, the party stated that he could challenge the decision through a formal written appeal submitted to either the Ward Executive Committee or the Local Government Executive Committee.

He was given 14 days from the receipt of the suspension notice to file his appeal.

The party leadership also urged members to remain calm and respect the decision, warning against actions that could create unnecessary tension within its ranks.

It called on members to uphold discipline and unity while encouraging Gantsa to use the suspension period to reflect on his conduct and address the issues raised against him.
