INEC Fixes October 9 for Nationwide PVC Collection Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced October 9, 2026, as the commencement date for the nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Monday in Kaduna during the Commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with staff and readiness assessment for the 2027 elections.

Amupitan said the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise produced more than 10.7 million new registrations nationwide. Reports indicate that the three phases of the exercise recorded 10,772,421 new registrations, subject to verification.

The INEC chairman called for the removal of bottlenecks affecting PVC distribution at the Local Government Area level, stressing the need to ensure that eligible voters are not disenfranchised.

He also disclosed that the Commission was refining its technological systems, including voter verification and result transmission, as well as its Result Management Systems, including the recently introduced eEC8A.

According to him, INEC is also implementing a “Zero-Failure” approach to election logistics, covering the early deployment of election materials, movement and security coordination, as well as the training of ad-hoc personnel.

The Kaduna engagement formed part of INEC’s ongoing readiness assessment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
