2027: Kwara Reps aspirant Ibrahim Tajudeen Olesin resigns from APC

Dr. Ibrahim Tajudeen Shola Olesin, a Kwara State House of Representatives aspirant, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Olesin, who previously sought the APC ticket to contest the Ilorin East/South Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general election, announced his resignation in a letter dated August 31, 2026.

In the letter addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Ibagun Ward, Ilorin East Local Government Area, Olesin said his resignation takes immediate effect, adding that he was also relinquishing his membership at the ward, local government and state levels.

He cited what he described as a lack of internal democracy within the APC’s Kwara State chapter as one of the major reasons for his decision.

Olesin said he joined the party because of its commitment to equity, progressive governance and democratic values, but alleged that the realities within the party had consistently contradicted those principles.

He particularly accused the party of suppressing dissenting voices, denying members a level playing field during internal processes and concentrating decision-making powers in the hands of a select few.

He also expressed concern over what he described as the neglect of genuine human capital development within the party and its governance framework.

According to him, his decision to leave the APC followed “long and careful reflection” on the direction of the party in Kwara State.

Olesin, however, thanked the ward chairman and other party members with whom he had worked over the years, saying he cherished the relationships built during his time in the party.

He said his departure was “purely a matter of principle and conscience.”
