Bruno Fernandes has been named the 2025/26 Premier League Player of the Season after an outstanding campaign with Manchester United.

The Premier League confirmed the Portuguese midfielder as the winner of the prestigious individual award on Saturday, marking the first time Fernandes has received the honour.

Fernandes beat several top performers to claim the award, including Declan Rice, David Raya, Gabriel Magalhães, and Erling Haaland.

The 31-year-old played a crucial role in Manchester United’s resurgence this season, recording a league-high 20 assists — equalling the Premier League record — alongside eight goals in 37 appearances.

His performances helped United secure a return to the UEFA Champions League after missing out for the past two seasons.

Fernandes also created an impressive 132 chances during the campaign, the highest by any player in the league and 43 more than the next closest player.

With the achievement, he becomes the third Portuguese player to win the award after Cristiano Ronaldo and Rúben Dias.

He is also the first Manchester United player to win the award since Wayne Rooney in 2010, earning the club its eighth Player of the Season honour overall.

Fernandes could still make more history on the final day of the season when Manchester United face Aston Villa on Sunday, with the midfielder in contention to break the Premier League’s all-time assists record.
