The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, describing it as “dead on arrival.”

Wike stated that Makinde’s reported alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in pursuit of his 2027 presidential ambition would not succeed.

Makinde had on Thursday declared his intention to contest the presidency on the platform of the APM during an event held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The declaration followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Makinde’s faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM.

Reacting while speaking with journalists during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Gomani-Yangoje, Kwali Area Council of Abuja, Wike said Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, had never spoken about any PDP-APM alliance, insisting that such claims were mere political speculation.

“What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival,” Wike said.

“It’s unfortunate. We know that has been his game plan and we would say he cannot fly the flag of PDP.”

The FCT minister also reacted to comments linked to Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, regarding his continued membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the governor had not asked anyone to pity him.
