Tinubu reshuffles cabinet, replaces Wale Edun with Oyedele as finance minister
President Bola Tinubu has carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle, relieving Wale Edun of his duties as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy and appointing Taiwo Oyedele as his replacement.
Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance, is expected to assume full responsibility for the ministry following a formal handover scheduled to be completed by Thursday.
In another change, Tinubu also removed Ahmed Musa Dangiwa from his position as Minister of Housing and Urban Development. He has been replaced by Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who has been named as minister-designate for the portfolio.
According to a statement issued by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the reshuffle takes immediate effect, with all handover processes expected to be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.
The statement noted that President Bola Tinubu approved the changes in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), describing the exercise as part of efforts to strengthen coordination and improve delivery under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akume explained that the adjustments are aimed at enhancing synergy within the Federal Executive Council and boosting economic performance, adding that further reinvigoration of the cabinet would remain continuous.
The presidency also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours.
