The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled Reverend Cornelius Olaosebikan Fawenu as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Engineer Suleiman Bolakale Kawu Agaka, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued in Ilorin on Tuesday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, popularly known as Sholyment.

According to the statement, Agaka formally communicated his choice of Fawenu to the state chairman of the party after what it described as extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders and members across Kwara State’s three senatorial districts.

The PDP described Fawenu as a respected party leader, seasoned clergyman and former Kwara State Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), noting that his selection reflects the party’s commitment to presenting a competent, inclusive and people-oriented governorship ticket.

The party said Fawenu, who hails from Babaloma in Kwara South Senatorial District and currently serves as the PDP Chairman in the district, will partner Agaka, the Daniyan of Ilorin, on the party’s governorship ticket.

It added that the emergence of the 53-year-old cleric followed a rigorous selection process involving the governorship candidate and key stakeholders across the state.

According to the PDP, the Agaka/Fawenu ticket combines experience, innovation, grassroots appeal and religious balance, positioning the party to challenge for power in the 2027 elections.

The party noted that Fawenu, the Presiding Pastor of Oasis of Wisdom Bible Church, Ilorin, emerged from a shortlist of four aspirants for the deputy governorship position based on what it described as his leadership qualities, loyalty to the party and contributions to peaceful coexistence, religious harmony and community development.

A graduate of Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Fawenu has over 23 years of ministerial experience. The PDP said he is also recognised for his advocacy for interfaith dialogue, good governance and peaceful Muslim-Christian relations.

The party expressed confidence that the Agaka/Fawenu ticket possesses the competence, integrity and experience needed to provide effective leadership for the state if elected.

The PDP also urged its members, supporters and residents of Kwara State to unite behind the ticket as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
