A former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Haliru Dantsoho, has cautioned the party against zoning its 2027 governorship ticket to Kwara North, warning that such a move could threaten its chances of retaining power.

Dantsoho, who spoke during a television interview, said electoral victory is determined by numbers, strategy, and consensus—not sentiments or agitation.

He noted that Kwara Central remains the largest voting bloc in the state, followed by Kwara North and Kwara South, stressing that political decisions must align with this reality.

Reflecting on past efforts, he recalled supporting the agitation for power shift to Kwara North, but said the zone missed its opportunity in 2023 due to lack of unity among stakeholders.

He also criticized what he described as a confrontational approach by some zoning advocates, warning that such tactics could alienate key stakeholders and weaken support for the region.

Dantsoho further pointed to internal divisions among leading aspirants from Kwara North, noting that the absence of a consensus candidate continues to undermine the zone’s chances.

He warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could capitalize on the situation by presenting a candidate from Kwara Central, which may put the APC at a disadvantage.

According to him, his decision to step down for a Kwara Central candidate was guided by the need to protect the party’s electoral chances, emphasizing that unity and strategic alignment remain crucial for victory in 2027.
