Tinubu Assures Nigerians of End to Insecurity in Northern Region

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the security challenges facing the country, particularly in the northern region, will soon be overcome, saying his administration has adopted decisive measures to eliminate criminal activities nationwide.

The President gave the assurance on Saturday during the Third Late General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference held in Kaduna. He was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari.

Paying tribute to the late General Hassan Usman Katsina, Tinubu described the former military governor of the defunct Northern Region and former Chief of Army Staff as a symbol of humility, discipline, patriotism and selfless service. He noted that Katsina played a pivotal role in promoting national unity and strengthening Nigeria during critical periods in the country’s history.

According to the President, the late military leader’s dedication to national unity helped lay the foundation for the democracy and freedoms Nigerians enjoy today.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the country and preserving the legacies of national heroes, Tinubu said efforts to restore peace and security remain a top priority.

“While we continue to work day and night to secure our nation, by the grace of Allah, the challenges of insecurity confronting us, particularly in Northern Nigeria, will soon be behind us,” he said.

The President also highlighted key achievements of his administration across education, infrastructure, transportation and the power sector.

In education, Tinubu said more than one million students have accessed higher education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). He added that the removal of tertiary institutions from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) has enhanced institutional autonomy and contributed to industrial harmony in public universities.

He further disclosed that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has financed the construction of classrooms, laboratories, hostels and research facilities nationwide, while the Federal Government has introduced a new national curriculum, expanded teacher training programmes and increased investment in technical and vocational education. He also announced the establishment of new federal universities and polytechnics across the country.

On infrastructure, Tinubu said work is progressing on major road projects, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, Sokoto–Zamfara–Kaduna Road and the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road, aimed at improving connectivity and stimulating economic growth.

Speaking on the power sector, the President highlighted ongoing projects such as the Kaduna Power Station, the 40-megawatt Kumbotso High Voltage Power Project and the rehabilitation of the 215-megawatt Kaduna Power Plant. He also said the government is expanding renewable energy through the installation of more than 1,500 solar-powered streetlights and 50 mini-grids in rural communities.

Tinubu announced that the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna has been upgraded to a full-fledged university named after General Hassan Usman Katsina. According to him, the institution is over 90 per cent completed and has already commenced academic activities.

He also revealed that the Federal Government is developing the 1,350-megawatt Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant to boost electricity supply in Northern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, while renewable energy projects are being implemented for off-grid communities.

On transportation, the President said construction of the Kaduna–Kano Rail Line and the Kano–Maradi Rail Project is progressing steadily. He added that funding has been secured for the Kaduna and Kano Light Rail projects, while the rehabilitation of the Abuja Metro Rail and the upgrade of the Abuja–Kaduna train service are also underway.

Tinubu said the ongoing projects demonstrate his administration’s commitment to strengthening security, expanding economic opportunities and accelerating national development across the country.
