The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that at least 75 people were killed in the recent attack on Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi disclosed the figure during an interview on Channels TV, adding that investigations are ongoing. She said the Commissioner of Police ordered an immediate deployment, but the remote location of the communities—about two hours from the divisional headquarters—delayed reinforcements.

Ejire-Adeyemi admitted officers in the area may have been overwhelmed, but noted that the police worked alongside the military, National Forest Guard, and local vigilantes.

Following the killings, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the deployment of tactical and intelligence assets, while a manhunt is underway.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described the incident as a “pure massacre,” and President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an army battalion to strengthen security in the state.
