INEC Omission Increased NDC’s Popularity – Gwarzo’s Spokesman
The spokesperson for Aminu Gwarzo, the Kano State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, has said the controversy surrounding the omission of his principal’s name from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s list of candidates has increased the party’s popularity.
Shuaibu said the development had attracted more supporters to the party and generated public sympathy ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
He made this known on Friday while reacting to INEC’s decision to restore Gwarzo’s name to the list of candidates after it was initially omitted.
According to him, the party was not worried when the commission left out Gwarzo’s name because its members were confident that they had fulfilled all the requirements for the nomination process.
He explained that the party followed the necessary procedures, starting from membership registration to the nomination of its candidate and the submission of his details to the electoral commission.
Shuaibu said the party had expected the issue to be resolved, adding that the restoration of Gwarzo’s name was not unexpected.
He further claimed that the development, which could have affected the party negatively, had instead drawn more attention to the NDC and increased its support base.
The spokesman maintained that the party would continue its mobilisation efforts across Kano State while making its programmes known to residents.
He expressed confidence that the controversy had given the party more visibility as it prepares for the 2027 governorship election.
INEC’s decision to restore Gwarzo’s name followed public attention over its earlier omission from the list of candidates for the forthcoming election.
