Ex-President Buhari’s Son Declares Interest in House of Reps Seat

Yusuf Buhari has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development was disclosed by Bashir Ahmad, who confirmed that the decision followed extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders.

Speculation had earlier trailed Yusuf’s political ambition after a letter dated April 3 surfaced online. In the letter, he reportedly informed stakeholders of his plan to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua federal constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

“I am delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter read.

Ahmad also reaffirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), describing it as a product of wide consultations.

Since the end of the administration of his father, Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf Buhari has maintained a relatively low public profile, making this his most significant political move to date.
