Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has accused the federal government of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to persecute him and members of his cabinet over their refusal to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the allegation on Wednesday at the Government House, Bauchi, after receiving an ambassadorial safety award from the Institute of Safety Professionals in Nigeria.

His comments followed the arraignment of the state Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, by the EFCC over alleged N5.79bn money laundering.

Adamu was accused of conspiring with Ishaku Mohammed Aliyu, managing director of I.S. Makayye Investment Resources Limited, and one Muntaka Duguri, who are reportedly at large, to launder N4.65bn between June and December 2023.

Mohammed lamented that despite enjoying constitutional immunity, his name has been mentioned in court processes, while members of his cabinet are being targeted.

He described the actions as politically motivated, insisting that opposition figures are being intimidated for refusing to defect to the ruling party.
