Arsenal Complete £75m Move for Bruno Guimaraes
Premier League champions Arsenal have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in a deal reportedly worth £75 million.
The 28-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Gunners, with an option for a further 12 months, bringing his four-year stay at Newcastle to an end.
Guimaraes said he was excited to join the North London club, adding that talks with sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta convinced him that Arsenal was the right next step in his career.
He also promised to give his all for the club and expressed hope of creating memorable moments with his new teammates and supporters.
Berta described the Brazilian as a technically gifted midfielder with leadership qualities and the ability to play both as a defensive midfielder and in a box-to-box role.
Arsenal believe his arrival will add depth and quality to the squad as the club pursues domestic and European success.
Newcastle had hoped to keep the Brazil international, who still had two years left on his contract, but the transfer provides a major financial boost for the Magpies.
Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon for about £40 million in January 2022 and made 195 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals and helping them win the Carabao Cup.
Reports indicate that the sale is one of the highest fees Newcastle have received for a player aged 28 or older and represents a record transfer involving a player of his age.
