ADC Loses to APC at Aregbesola’s Polling Unit

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defeated the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the polling unit of former Osun State Governor and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, in Saturday’s governorship election.

At Polling Unit 001, Cooperative Building Junction, Isare, Ward 08, Ilesa East Local Government Area, where Aregbesola cast his ballot earlier in the day, the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, polled 256 votes to emerge first.

The Accord Party candidate and incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, came second with 43 votes, while the ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, secured 13 votes.

The result represents a setback for the ADC, particularly as Aregbesola is one of the party’s prominent leaders and has been actively backing Salaam’s candidacy in the election.

Aregbesola, who governed Osun State from 2010 to 2018, defected from the APC to the ADC and currently serves as the party’s National Secretary. He had earlier cast his vote at his hometown of Ilesa.

ADC Also Loses Nearby Polling Unit

The ADC also recorded a poor result at another polling unit close to Aregbesola’s family compound.

At Polling Unit 007, Elegant D.C. (Agbon Arugbo), Isare, Ward 08, Ilesa East LGA, the APC again emerged victorious with 202 votes.

The Accord Party polled 110 votes, while the ADC received 12 votes.

The results from the two polling units could be significant for the ADC, which has presented itself as a major alternative to the APC and Accord Party in the Osun governorship election.

Aregbesola remains one of Osun’s influential political figures. He served two terms as governor, first under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and later the APC, before becoming Minister of Interior under the Federal Government.

His move to the ADC has added political weight to the party’s campaign in Osun, with the party seeking to challenge the established political forces in the state.
