Baze University has participated in the curriculum review and official launch of the National Blockchain Education Programme held at the National Assembly, Abuja, on October 13 and 14, 2026.

The university was represented by its Director of IT, Dr Alhassan Abdulmutallib, alongside officials from its Legal Department, underscoring the institution’s commitment to technological innovation, legal compliance and data protection in the adoption of emerging technologies.

The two-day engagement was convened by the Blockchain Adoption Initiative in collaboration with Baze University, the African University of Science and Technology, and Nile University of Nigeria. It brought together stakeholders from academia, industry and regulatory institutions to advance blockchain education, promote responsible innovation and expand digital inclusion in Nigeria.

The first day featured an extensive review of the proposed curriculum, with discussions centred on practical blockchain skills, cybersecurity, data protection, regulatory compliance and entrepreneurship. Participants also examined learning outcomes, hands-on training approaches and the need to align the programme with Nigeria’s economic and technological priorities.

Speaking at the engagement, the Chairman of the House Committee on Delegated Legislation, Hon. Olufemi Richard Bamisile, highlighted the potential applications of blockchain technology beyond cryptocurrency, particularly in banking, agriculture and digital identity management.

He emphasised the need to equip Nigerians with practical digital skills through a curriculum that incorporates hands-on training, cybersecurity education and effective regulation.

Bamisile commended the Blockchain Adoption Initiative and the three collaborating universities for their contributions to the programme, urging stakeholders to ensure that it delivers measurable results in skills development, research, entrepreneurship and employment.

He also called for increased public awareness of blockchain infrastructure, its underlying technology and potential applications, noting that informed citizens, a skilled workforce and effective safeguards for cybersecurity and data protection are essential to strengthening the industry and ensuring responsible adoption.

The programme was officially launched on the second day, with speakers emphasising the importance of combining technical expertise with a sound understanding of the ethical, legal and regulatory responsibilities associated with emerging technologies.

Baze University’s participation in the initiative highlights its commitment to advancing technology-driven education and strengthening strategic partnerships that connect academic learning with industry needs.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to the development of digital skills and prepare young Nigerians for emerging opportunities in the country’s evolving digital economy.
