‘I’m Hale, Strong and Ready to Work’ — Tinubu Speaks After Return to Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe, declaring that he is healthy, strong and ready to resume his official duties.

Tinubu made this known on Tuesday evening upon his arrival in Lagos from Paris, France, where he spent the latter part of his working vacation.

Speaking with journalists who asked about concerns surrounding his health, the President dismissed the speculations, insisting that he remained fit to discharge his responsibilities.

“Rumours will always emanate from politics. I am hale and strong. I am ready to work. The fact remains that I am here, healthy, sound and ready to go,” he said.

The President departed Nigeria on August 30 for London before proceeding to Paris. The Presidency described the trip as a working vacation, which was later extended by a few days.

His prolonged stay abroad generated public and political debate, with opposition figures questioning the duration of his absence and his decision not to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York in person.

However, the Presidency maintained that Tinubu remained in contact with government officials and continued to oversee the affairs of the country while abroad.

Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the President at several official engagements, including the United Nations General Assembly.

During his stay in France, Tinubu met with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré. The Presidency also linked the trip to engagements with investors and discussions on major investment projects, including the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port in Ogun State.

Tinubu is expected to participate in activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1 in Lagos before returning to Abuja.
